Geschichte ist langweilig, verstaubt und ohne jeglichen Unterhaltungswert? Falsch! Wieder einmal kann die Inselbevölkerung das Gegenteil beweisen und sich dadurch ein weiteres Mal abheben von jeglichen Vorurteilen. Die Insulaner zeigen, dass selbst ein Blick in eine Zeit spannend und unterhaltsam sein kann, die über 700 Jahre zurückliegt. Straßenumzüge, bei denen riesige Figuren durch die Stadt ziehen, Trommler und allerlei andere Musiker den Takt einer fröhlichen Musik vorgeben und Tänzer, die sich dazu in bunten Kostümen bewegen – und ordentlich für Stimmung sorgen. Geschichte kann so aufregend sein!
Die Ständegesellschaft vs. das autonome Volk
Nein, am Insel-Festtag wird sich selbst der größte Geschichtsmuffel garantiert nicht langweilen. Und es gibt allen Grund zur Freude: Im Jahr 1267 war es der erste Monarch des eigenständigen Königsreichs Mallorca, König Jaume II., der einen Eid ablegte und damit dem mallorquinischen Volk jegliche Rechte und Freiheiten einräumte, sodass es befreit wurde von den Zwängen der damals in ganz Europa vorherrschenden feudalen Ordnung. Mit der Aufhebung der Ständegesellschaft und der Festlegung der „Carta Franqueses i privilegis del Regne de Mallorca“, wurde das Königreich Mallorca ausgerufen – zu Recht feiert man dieses Ereignis auf der ganzen Insel.

Zwar ist der „Diada de Mallorca“ kein gesetzlich eingetragener Feiertag – nicht, dass die Mallorquiner den Tag nicht trotzdem feiern würden – in diesem Jahr allerdings fällt der 12. September auf einen Samstag – sodass Sie sicher sein können: Es wird ein besonders rauschendes und gut besuchtes Fest! Freuen Sie sich auf die beeindruckenden übergroßen Königsfiguren, die an dem Tag durch die Inselhauptstadt ziehen werden – doch nicht nur die „Gigantes“ werden für ordentliche Stimmung sorgen – ein buntes Programm mit Konzerten, Tanzvorführungen, Vorträgen und weiteren diversen Veranstaltungen machen die Entstehungsgeschichte des Königsreichs Mallorca an diesem Tag greif- und vor allem erlebbar.
