In der vergangenen Woche, am 12. August, teilte Palmas Flughafenbetreiber AENA (Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea) die aktuellen Fluggastzahlen mit. Bereits in den vergangenen Monaten waren die Zahlen überdurchschnittlich.
Die meisten Passagiere kamen aus Deutschland: 1,12 Millionen deutsche Reisende wurden während dieser Zeit gezählt. Mit 789.238 folgten Fluggäste aus Großbritannien. Die Zahl der spanischen Passagiere belief sich auf 588.389 und verzeichnete damit ein Plus von 10,8 Prozent.
Die Zahl der Flugbewegungen belief sich auf 24.466. Damit stieg die Zahl der startenden und landenden Flugzeuge am Flughafen Palma de Mallorca im Vergleich zum Vorjahresmonat um 0,3 Prozent.
Bereits seit Beginn des Jahres hatte der Flughafenbetreiber stets wachsende Passagierzahlen verzeichnet und erst im Juni verkündet, dass man in diesem Sommer einen neuen Rekord der Fluggastzahlen erwarte. Bis September sollte die Zahl Fluggäste auf 13 Millionen ansteigen – diese Erwartung wurde nun bereits übertroffen: In den Monaten von Januar bis Juli wurden insgesamt 13,04 Millionen Reisende gezählt, im Vorjahresvergleich bedeutet dies ein Passagierplus von 2,5 Prozent.
